Take your chance to dive with whale sharks at the best dive site of the gulf of Thailand. Every level of divers, non certified divers and snorkelers can discover the underwater world of Sail Rock.
You can dive at Sail Rock with whale sharks, the biggest fish of our planet, on a regularly basis all year round. They are always in the surroundings. We can dive with them especially around full moon time.
Sail Rock is the best dive sites of the gulf of Thailand. Therefore even if the whale sharks are not there, you will love it anyway (thousand of barracudas, fusilliers, carangues, batfish…).
Sail Rock is between Koh Phangan and Koh Tao is the best dive site in the area. This unique shaped granite pinnacle with amazing walls rises up 8m out of the water.
The dive site is stretching down to 47 meters. However already from the surface, you can observe a lot of fauna & flora. You will see most of the fish between 2 and 20 meters. Sail Rock has everything to offer from macro diving to whale sharks, the bio-diversity and number of marine life found over there is really impressive. Thats the spot to dive with thousands of barracudas, fusilliers, carangues and batfish and much more.

If you need a diving insurance that covers the decompression chamber and any other costs caused by an accident that may happen to you on the way to the dive site or during the dive, we offer one which is 250 Thb for all your dives. To be paid at Blue Horizon Diving.
Pre requisites
Pre requisites: Every divers, from beginners to advanced levels, can dive at Sail Rock. We will stay at the depth matching with your dive certification. A minimum of an Open Water Diver is required. If you are not certified you can dive the same dive sites but you have to do a Try Scuba Diving or an Open Water Diver course.
Whale sharks are usually staying close from the surface. Hence even snorkelers can swim with them. So your non divers friends can get on the boat trip with you.
Schedules - Program
Schedules & Program: To go diving at sail Rock, the boat leaves every day at 8am and comes back at 2pm at Chaloklum pier. First of all, you will have the breakfast on the way there (50min ride). After you will do 1 dive. Then you will have a nice lunch on the boat. Afterwords you will do 1 dive and finally the boat will head back to Phangan.
Keep a memory of your day
Keep some memories of your amazing experience of diving or snorkeling day. Your instructor can take professional underwater videos and pictures. We will send you all the files by “we transfer” afterwards. The price is 800 Thb for 1 person or 1000 Thb for 2 people or 1200 for 3 to 4 people.
Infos about dive sites
Sail Rock
is divided in 2 pinnacles: The rock itself that is going out of the water and east pinnacle that starts at 19 meters deep about 50 meters away from Sai Rock. The main rock has an amazing chimney. You can go inside using one of the 3 entrances which are at 5, 13 and 19 meters deep.
With advanced divers, we go to explore East pinacle which is a second large rock – that doesn’t reach the surface – on the south east of the dive site that drops down into the sand at more than 30 metres. We can go to the artificial reef made with concrete blocks which is around 25 meters deep.
If you have a good buoyancy, we like to go through the canyon, which is quite shallow and very narrow! Its a good exercice to go through when we do some buoyancy specialty course.
As several smaller scattered rocks surround the main rock, we can dive around.
About Whale sharks
Take your chance to dive with a WHALE SHARK, the biggest fish on this planet!!
It is impressive and very safe as the whale shark does not have big teeth and behaves smoothly.
They can be between 3 up to 7 meters at this dive site. The adults, who can reach 15 meters long or more, usually stay away from the divers.
Whale sharks have a life span of 70 to 100 years. We have to respect them and never touch them as that can strengthen their lives in generating skin diseases.
This gentle giant is majestic, very friendly and are looking for the company of divers. As they will most likely swim around the divers, no need to rush! Just stay still and admire the creature. Its unique.
The bigger fish of the planet can be even seen by snorkelers as most of the time whale sharks are swimming close to the surface.
Whale sharks are endangered:
Whale sharks (Rhincodon typus) are the largest shark, and indeed largest of any fishes alive today. They feed on plankton and travel large distances to find enough food to sustain their huge size, and to reproduce. We can find Whale sharks in all the tropical oceans of the world. Their white spotted colouration makes these gentle giants easy to distinguish, and popular with snorkelers and divers at sites where they aggregate off the coast.
We don’t know for sure the maximum size of whale sharks. However we found 1 dead animal of 20 meters. Females give birth to live young but this has never been observed. Whale sharks are very rare on the planet. Adults are often found feeding at the surface, but may dive to 1000m. Whale sharks are protected from fishing in many countries these days. However unfortunately they are in decline in some areas.
